Community leaders gathered this week to break ground on the downtown revitalization project, a public-private partnership that will add new retail, housing, and green space to the city core.
The first phase of the development includes 120 mixed-income residential units, ground-floor space for local businesses, and a redesigned public plaza intended to host farmers markets, concerts, and seasonal events.
Funded through a combination of private investment, municipal bonds, and state grants, the project is projected to generate hundreds of construction jobs and dozens of permanent positions once complete.
Officials say the effort is part of a broader strategy to attract young professionals and families to the urban center while preserving the character of the historic district.
